MTD backfires sometimes while starting but not every time.What could be causing that.The motor is a16.5 Briggs ohv.

Back-fires are USUALLY, .. a timing issue, check your flywheel keyway, and check your valve adjustment also.

I have set the valves at .004 ,I will check the kway.Thanks for the info.
