Looking to purchase a riding mower or a zero turn. Wondering if this would work on slopes or do I need one with more HP. Also it has a Vanguard motor, is that a good engine? I don't know the age of the mower but it looks clean. Any input would be great thanks.

Found out this guy rebuilds them. He put in a new motor in it with "low hours". Not thinking this is the mower for me.

The company builds them...he rebuilds them.
That MAY not be bad.

He may be more meticulous than the company.

It depends on several factors...price, quality, warranty


1/2 the price of a new one...

I can't say if this is a good deal or not but I can say if you have slopes over 15º, you don't want a ZT mower. A regular riding mower would be a better option.

I run my ZTR VERY SAFELY on slopes much worth than 15 degrees. Didn't put goniometer on them, but several are easy 30 degrees if not worth. Being very low center of gravity and wide stance, ZTR is very stable. There is no way riding mower will go sidewise, as ZTR does, on those slopes. Seriously. I tried, it tends to flip right away.
That said, I had 54 inch Hustler and it was junk. Falling apart junk. I'd not be buying a reconditioned one.

I have a Hustler XOne and it’s a beast... handles slopes like a champ. However, I’ve seen too many folks buy “reconditioned” mowers that are on thier last leg. Used up belts, low on oil, beat up blades... but typically some new paint. My father in law has probably put $1k into his “rebuilt” ZTR in two months.
