Hi, I have an issue with my Briggs and Stratton engine it starts and then the engine suddenly dies after 10 seconds and the exhaust is red hot within a couple seconds, what could be causing the immediate cut off of the engine. Carb has been replaced and lawnmower has been serviced.

Failure within the muffler?

If it is blocked or partially blocked.
If the valve lash has closed up then fuel burns inside the muffler which will cause the muffle to glow red very quickly.
The valve gets more sticky and eventually the engine stops.

A partially sheared flywheel key can cause the engine to be retarded a little so the charge is still burning when the exhaust valve opens, however keys generally fail advanced.
A coil too far from the flywheel also retards the spark with the came result and generally it will be a bit more difficult to start.

The exhaust is not part of the engine so those numbers are not need to find your exhaust. You will have to have the mower model numbers or whatever your engine is on to find
