Hi all

A lot of people are having problems with their 500 series chainsaws. These machines are great boat anchors!! When they first came out in 2013 there were loads of problems, of which I notified Husqvarna of the design flaw. What they did since then, is increased the strength of the seal in the bearing. Let me explain how this works first. All chainsaws and 2 stroke engines are designed for heat in mind. Husqvarna decided that it wanted to eliminate the cost of a seal. If you look at a crankshaft (and it does not matter what machine or brand) you will have your weights, then a bearing then a seal. In the 500 seires, Husqvarna eliminated the seal and took the seal and put it in the bearing. As the rubber was not strong enough to with stand the heat coming from the "scavaging" (this is where the heat comes down the intake port to the crankshaft and to the bearing and seal) the seals were melting, causing a major air draw. As this air was then allowed into the engine, fuel and oil was collapsing in the crankcase and not lubricating the Piston and cylinder, causing score marks and the engine was blown!!! Since that time they changed the rubber composition and it seems to be holding, but it is a chainsaw that I would never buy!! I recommend, staying away from these. If you are a Husqvarna fan, the 365 and 372 old version are the best!!
