How do you determine what replacement blades fit?

I have an Ariens 936060 mower with a 42" cut that I like to find new blades for. The part # for the factory blade and bolt/washer is 21546301.

I have used "Gator Blades" in the past, and really liked those. It does seem like that style of blade is offered by other brands like "Arnold" that I saw at my local Lowes.

So what do I need to know to get the right replacement blade? I'd guess I just need the correct length and bolt pattern, but I guess wrong all the time

Thanks!

most aftermarket blade makers list their blades by length, width , thickness and hole size / pattern
So any blade of the same length width & hole size/ pattern will fit.
How well they work is a different matter

The other think that needs to be taken into account is the offset.
Some blades are flat and others are stepped.
THis changes the height above the blade in the deck which makes a massive difference to the way the deck will perform.
The other difference is the exposure of the mounting nut/ bolt.
Running a blade with less offset the the original can wear the bolt round thus very difficult to remove.

Lastly Arnold is not an aftermarket parts company.
It is the brand name of MTD parts that are not sold through MTD dealers.

What I forot to mention was if you go to the web pages of Oregon, Prime Line, Rotary & Stens, search with the part number of your original blade most of them will throw up any recommended replacements.
From memory Stens only lis the exact replacement
Oregon will list all of the options
Prime line will list options
Rotary not sure as I access Rotary through a distributor.
