Hi, i have a Honda s216 sda lawn mower. It's self-propelled, rear wheel drive. When the transmission is engaged, if you hold the mower so the rear wheels are suspended (no resistance), they spin but one faster than the other. With any resistance, neither wheel will turn.

This mower has a belt under the deck driven by the drive shaft going into the mower blade. The transmission is an axel running between the back two wheels. It has a belt pulley that sits above the transmission. There's a long bolt running from the back deck, through the pulley assembly and through a spring that presumably keeps the belt tension.

I can turn the blade by hand, which drives the transmission and see the axel turning and the wheels turning. More weird, i can turn the wheels backward and hear the clicking of the ratcheted gears in them--so the gears in the wheel are connected to to the gears in the axel.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bobby
