I have a 2006 Fastrak with starting issues. New battery, starter motor and solenoid but just clicks. I can hear the starter motor shaft hitting the flywheel. Seemed like too much starting friction so I disengaged the hydro motors and it started instantly - every time. does this mean there is a problem with the hydro motors?

Yes ,no maybe, perhaps.

Does the starter turn the engine over easily with spark plugs removed and the hydros connected ?
Before you check this look at the dip stick.
If the oil level is too high, remove the plugs and turn the engine over by hand, ignition off.
If you get a really strong smell of fuel, or liquid fuel comes out you have a hydro lock caused by a leaking carb float valve.

I don't think the oil level is too high but will recheck the dipstick.
If the oil level is normal, should I still remove plugs and do that test?
thanks

Yes.
You are there with the mower in front of you asking for help.
We are sitting here with a screen in front of us trying to work out what is wrong
So we need to know specific things and from those answers we will ask you to do more things till eventually we have sufficient information to give you meaning full instructions to fix your mower.
