I drove my Regent Lawn tractor into the neighbors fence and shaved a few teeth off the steering gear. Basically I only have steering if I spin the wheel a dozen times as most of the teeth are rounded off on the steering gear.

My model number is 2690572 and the steering gear is 1751110YP ... my question is about the pinion gear, I cant find a part number for just the gear as the diagrams show it as an assembly called the streering shaft 1727813.

Anyone know if I can get just the gear or did the engineers jack me up on this one?

Some shafts have a replacable pinion while others have a pinion that is an upset forging in the shaft itself thus it is one piece.

From your description these are the parts I would replace as long as I have it apart.
Steering sector gear #1728527 or #1751110. Depending on if you 3/8” ball joint or 5/16” bearing.
Spacer sector gear #1728172 most times worn.
Steering shaft with gear #1727813
Bushing #1729665 again most times worn.
This manual will help you, double check my numbers, as I only am finishing my first cup of java.
