Good morning.

My sister-in-law's Craftsman LT2000 lawn tractor runs fine but dies either when the brake/clutch is pressed in or when the deck is engaged. Checked all linkages, but can't seem to figure out what's going on with it. Any ideas? (If this has been addressed elsewhere, please advise.)

Thanks!

The seat switch or the wiring to it is faulty.
So the mower thinks you have had a heart attack & fallen off so it shuts down so it don't run over you or your kin

There are 2 safety circuits that kill the engine
Seat switch + PTO switch
Seat Switch + brake switch.

As hers dies when either the brake is let off or blades are turned on it points to the seat switch, or the wiring between the switches.
Some models have a relay in them that the seat switch activates so you can start them with the seat empty but can not drive or turn the blades on unless the seat is occupied.
While others just run the 2 circuits in parallel.
To work out whay you have we need the numbers from the tag under the seat as Craftsman mowers are made by several different companies for Sears to their specs.
