I have a 1979 - 1981 Simplicity 5116 with a B&S 16 HP twin motor. It was rebuilt a few years ago. Currently it is running well and does not smoke. Issue is that it is loosing oil somewhere. There is never any below it where I park it. It does not appear to be leaking when parked. There is oil on the end facing the seat of the motor. The shields on the front sides of the motor are coated in a grease like substance (possible oil but somewhat thicker). Deck is clean as can be as is the axle.
At the beginning of the season this was clean enough to eat off of. I changed the plugs and oil at that time. There is no apparent loss of performance or excess heat that I can tell. For now I am adding oil every other time I fill it up. I am topping it off every 3-4 gallons.
