What have I bought? An update

It is turning over nicely, good spark, just can not get to stay running more the two times.

Considering using a trigger sprayer and squirting directly into the carb.

Occasional back fires, right into your face. Using a rope

One day I will remember to get the serial numbers in the same place as the computer for better identification.

Sounds like the carb may need to be cleaned. Float maybe stuck.
Post serial numbers.

Trace the fuel flow from the tank to the carb. Some have a shut off valve that operates on the switch that may be faulty. Is there plenty of fuel getting to the bowl in the carb? Will it start and can you keep it running if you spray gas or starting fluid into the carb? It certainly sounds like some sort of fuel delivery problem or bad gas. Good luck. Gearjammer.
