This is a how long is a piece of string question.
Kevlar belts have around 20 times the tensile strength than cotton fibre belts.
There are more differences in mower belts than just the material the fibres are made from.
Where belts are serpentine the position of the strands are different as is their physical size.

On some mowers with electric clutches and you can get away with std high duty belts depending upon the belt routing on the decks.
On ZTR's the main drive can usually be swapped for a std belt.
However as the time charge for changing the belt is greater than the price of the belt it is a false economy for me to fit a std belt on customers mowers.

On any mower with vary drives there is no alternative to OEM belts as nothing else will work properly.
Then there are a lot of belts that are not a standard sections , so nothing other than OEM belts will wok properly again.
Mowers that use a slipping clutch mechanism for either the drive or the deck have to use wrapped Kevlar belts because std belts will not take the shock loads ad in many cases get sticky when hot and do not slip when required to clutch.

If you believe the redneck, anti authority, conspiracy merchants on EWE tube with massively over inflated egos & opinion of their superior intellect then it is all just a con to make the mower companies millions and they proudly show you them mowing with std belts fitted.
They never show you the mower slamming into a wall or fence because the dive refused to clutch or come back and tell you it only lasted 2 seasons.
