PTO problems

Have a cub cadet model 1863,when I engage the pto the blades will spin for about 3 to 15 seconds, than the mower locks up & the mower shuts down. It will start back up but the same thing happens.If I disconnect the mower belt,the pto runs fine.Any ideas???? Thanks JTS
