I'd like to be able to lift my Pony using a front bumper and
an available winch mounted on top of a steel shipping container.

The purpose would be for changing blades, cleaning, & other
maintenance and service.

I'm guessing the generic bumpers are spot-welded & not strong
enough for this.

Would a bumper built from 1/8 angle iron (bolted or welded together)
be strong enough?

Thanks - David

Ride ons are not as heavy as you think.
I used to just grab them and stand them on their bum on a couple of old lounge cushions.
Then I got the yard crane and lifted all mowers that had a nudge bar by it and never had one fail
To avoid damage to customers mowers now I sling them up from the front axels with a pair of 2m ( 6') round slings.
This is to avoid damage to the hood not because the bars are not strong enough
Most nudge bars are quite strong enough to lift the mower with as you are only taking a small portion of the actual weight so long as the rear wheels are on the ground.
In reality no more than the weight of the engine.

Just a point to remember.
Fuel will leak out of the fuel tank if too full and wet batteries will also leak.

FWIW I use the crane all the time.
Position the mower under the jib Slip some long 2 x 4 under the deck ( if I am removing it ).
Jack up the mower & slide the deck out of the way
So much easier to stand or sit with the underside of the mower staring you in the face than crawl under and get a face full of crud.
