I have a ltx1142. it will start up but won't move more than 5 inches back and forth even with the by-pass rod pulled out. pulleys and belts look fine. screeches when you push pedal down for either direction. wheels spin freely and the fan when jacked up. anyone know what's wrong. thanks for help

jack up the rear end and try to move the wheels.
If they turn ok then pull the right one and free up the brake.
The brake works on the layshaft, not the axel so if it is stuck the wheels will move a little in either direction then lock up.
