Yeah we have grass down here too
Otherwise the panseys masquerading as Wallaby's cry when they get tackled on gravel.
Where are the real men now days.
And come to think of it a Yankee asking about Rugby :confused2:
Next thing is you try & tell me you played cricket at school.
It is a real UN on here.
That engine is from 2000 so I would imaging it is a latter replacement.
Most of the small RER's had pull starts or pull + electric starts and ery small batteries.
Best place is your local B & S dealer as you will most likely need a hand or some local help.
Pull the head then you can spin the engine easily and check for spark.
On the coil will be a thich wire HT lead going to the plug and an thin lead which is an earth cut out.
So before you quadruple the value of the mower, check with that wire not connected.
It should go to a terminal at the back on the plate that the throttle wire connects to.

Always look first, then ask and buy last.

AS for how to videos you can subscribe to

Both excellent informative & accurate each with a slightly different approach.
I use a 2 leg CRABB puller and impact gun to remove just about all flywheels

hey burt
problem is the breakdowns at the ruck. too polite .they let every countrys halfback get passing on the front foot . i would like to see curtly beal try the 10 jumper on.:)=
no cricket.. too long of a game for me .lol

now back to work :( motor spins freely now .an still no spark . i can hold the tip of the black wire to the spark plug with no boot on it an not get shock. so i need a new coil for sure $55.00 dollars plus tax . i am going to pull the valve cover off today .

on the parts situation .the shop says it will take one week form the time of ordering for all parts to come. she does not carry 9hp stuff. :(

Pull the engine out of the mower, flip it over and you will see the crankcase / sump bolts
A broken rod on these engine usually is the death knell.
Ros are not dear and ou can get them in an under size or two but the cost of maching the crank or reboring quickly outstrips the price of a replacemnt.
One of the surplus engine merchants was doing 11Hp B &S for around $ 300 a while back.
Think they had some new pulls a bit cheaper.

Got to one of the sites that specialise in repowering mowers
Small Engine Supplies I think is a sponsor of this site so it would be nice to use them.
On the site are details on how to measure your engine
All of thier engines have the dimensions if you click on the more information.
Almost any B &S engine with a 1" pto shaft will fit.
99% of the variations are the alternator fitted, colour of the cover, type of air filter, type of fuel delivery, type of starter ,name on the tag etc etc etc.
Bigger engines will not make the mower go any faster but will have more power and use more fuel.
SES had some 11Hp for $ 230 + freight and that will come close to the price of a piston, con rod, pushrods and gasket set and have warranttee.
On smaler engine I try to find a duel starting engine so you don't have to worry about jump starting.
On a RER the engine height is not important as there is no hood and on a flat deck like the Snapper length is not particularly important either.
However you might need to rig up some sort of fuel tank as your motor came with fuel tank attached to the motor and most modern ones use a remote tank.
They changed the way Hp is measured sinc your otor was sold so now the same motor would be called 8 Hp
