KOHLER 24hp 6.5 hours on it. Needs starting fluid to start and runs good on full choke. As soon as you take throttle out of choke it runs..sputters...runs...sputters...runs..sputters. Also noticing oil blowing back into bottom side of air filter which Im not sure is normal. Any suggestions or ideas as to what may be wrong?

If it is a NEW engine, it should be covered under warranty. Messing with it could cause you problem down the road.

Take it back to where you got it from for a warrantee service.
It sounds like you have had a carb problem that has allowed fuel to enter the cylinder & then sump.
When you crank an engine in this state ou can do damage that while it will not stop the mower working now will lead to major problems down the track.
Even if it is a trivial repair now, you will have started a warrantee file on that engine which will be to your advantage in the long run.

If the mechanic sees any sign of spanner marks on the engine, your warantee can be voided and he has to fill in a form which specifically asks about "sign of tampering"
