im needing a stronger trimmer than my srm 225(which I love) im thinking the srm 266 or 280 will do the job but would consider the equivalent in a stihl. it will be used in thick bar ditches and cleaning fence rows. im wanting to stick to 2stroke, no 4stroke or 4mix.whats yals opinions on these, also how do the bike handles do? I would like to take off the guard an run with about 20" of string. thanks

Used a Ryobi 792R for 10 years. Replaced with Sears weedwhacker. These are considered low end machines by some. With their 2 strokes in tune with synthetic oil mix and platinum plugs they are demons. I regularly cut 12" weeds, even wet , with no problem. The deceased Ryobi had a click stalk with a brush blade which fits the weedwhacker. Did have to adjust the idle and run jet needles on the sears unit right out of the box.

Whatever you do just don't buy Troybilt straight shaft 25.5CC trimmer. That thing is useless!!! Bought it last year...didn't have time to returned it back and now I'm regretting buying it.

We got the 280 PAX. It is a beast with the edger as well. We have a 225 PAX as well. It does ok with the string trimmer head. It also works great with the pole saw and hedge trimmers. It is a little weak though pulling the edger in heavy trimming.

I have the pe225 it is very weak on first edge. Bought a big walk behind edger for that. Works great for maintaining

The srm 280 is the largest Echo has and it's a 28.1cc and there price range goes from $369.99 to $399.99. The equivalent in the stihl motor wise would be the FS 90R with the 28.4 cc engine and they run $329.95. Echos high end 280 still with the 28.1 is $399.99 and for that money you can get the FS 130 Stihl with a 36cc engine but there the 4 mix models. The problem is there isn't any of the units Stihl or Echo that will run 20 inches of line with a guard off effectively. The largest Stihl units can go 17 inches max.
