I am helping and elderly friend on his huskee push mower with briggs 5.5 HP Quantum engine on it. I posted a thread about this engine and received several replies and all were appreciated. I picked up a new carb kit and spark plug this AM. Do any of you know what kind of compression this engine should hold? I have a compression checker and want to check compression on the motor.
All help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Engine model # 12J802-0651-01

A bit of searching revealed that Briggs doesn't publish a specific cylinder pressure figure. From what I've read, approximately 90psi or above seems on the good side. 75 psi or a little lower is reason to look into valves or rings being worn.
