My 1997 Sunstar starts every time I turn the key. BUT then it stops like shutting the switch off within 3-4 seconds. Help!

Post your model number example: 1692454

Replace fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs & check oil level on dipstick and if gas is in oil by checking dipstick.

oil level full and clean
no gas in oil
starts with no hesitation then stalls within 4 seconds. Every time.

Lawn Tractor Manuals | Riding Mower Manual | Simplicity Mowers Manual shows 20 h.p. being B&S Vanguard & 18 h.p. Kohler Command. Either way you need to adjust valves to specs. Post all numbers from engine. Check neutral detent w/safety start switch.

Thanks for wiring diagrams.
Engine was replaced with Kohler by previous owner. No start/run problems until now, 5 years later.

check circuit breaker, wires grounding out from electrical harness, or defective safety switch, use hands on approach & take your time.

let us know what you find please.

Found that fuel solenoid isonly energized during cranking. Is not energized in run position of ignition switch. Safety switches all made and energized. Don't know where to look.

Have you inspected spark plugs recently for replacement?
