Teeth stripped off flywheel.Replaced it with another flywheel with metal flywheel teeth.Only thing I noticed diffrent was the size of the magnets in it. They are wider. Now engine will not start and run. It does fire ,but it seems like it is out of time.Everything is is the same as before the flywheel teeth stripped off except metal flywheel ring and the wider magnets.

Should I replace the stator with the one from the other mower or go back to plastic.

Just replace the ring gear.

The magnets are related to the engine charging systems and are unrelated to the engine not starting.

If you place the old flywheel over the new one an line up the two keyways the magnets should like up. If they don't your ignition timing will be out and the engine wont start.

In this case just order a new ring gear kit and replace it on the original flywheel as EngineMan suggested.
