Do you guys design your landscape your own or you hired some specialist to do the job. I want an eye-catching landscape but do not have any talent in designing.

I was never confronted with having to do landscaping until we built our house on a treed, undeveloped lot. I enjoy the design process and have enjoyed learning about the various aspects of it. Even at that----there have been times I 've considered hiring someone.

Someone I know designed his own fantastic landscape over a period of something like five years. There were trials and error and lots of reading. But he enjoyed it. It was his home after all. He didn't want to delegate it :)

I believe in an innate ability in each one of us to design our own abodes. We just need to be more sensitive to this ability (do I sound like Mahathma Gandhi? or Kahlil Gibran? ^_^). If it's your home, you have the advantage of having all the time you need.

Drive around your area, look what others have done... when you see some that you like take some pictures ... then set out to recreate a combination of what you liked that has already been done to your satisfaction... :smile:KennyV

There is an awful lot of things to consider when creating a landscape design. Living in the tropics you have a great many plants to choose from. If you can afford it, hire a landscapr designer on a consulting basis. Having the knowledge of what works and the requirements of the many different plants you have to chose from and the time it takes to maintain them would be a real asset. I would talk to the most experienced person I could find and see if you can work something out. If his business is like most, he is eager to get what ever work he (or she) can in this economic climate. That is if the Phillpines is in the same shape as the US right now.

Something you might consider is to purchase a few books on the subject and do a little homework now that's it's winter. It might help you decide that it's not as hard as it seems, or that it's really NOT for you.
