HRR2168VKA rear wheels locking up

I have a HRR2168VKA and will not roll backwards and when you try to engage the smart drive you can see the wheels try to move and stop it moves maybe a quarter of an inch and then just sits there. I have taken the wheels off there is nothing in the gears. Any suggestions?

Check the axle see if anything is caught on it. Check belt I believe the trans is sealed so that's hard to check are the gears lubed up?

One other thing you could try is with the engine running lift the end of the mower with the drive wheels on and see if it will turn with no weight on it on it's own ? Then you can see if it turns or not.:licking::licking::licking:
