Have the Briggs Intek 24hp twin cylinder engine. Burning oil, suspect it's the head gasket, Any info on how difficult it is to repair ? Need some instructions.

Thanks

Putting on a new head gasket that is no big job, but it could also be ring's, there will be engine model and type, post it up.

Thanks for the reply Engine Man,

The #'s are 446677-0463-E1

It has about 360 hours on it. Seems to run fine other than burning alot of oil. Believe it's a 2006 model.

To see if it is head gasket(s) you will have to take off the heads to look at gasket(s) do a compression and leak down test before you replace the head gasket, these two test will help determine which cylinder has a blown head gasket.

I would also check the blow by filter and screen, they may be plug as a result of over filling with oil, if so can cause the engine to lose vacuum and push oil out the exhaust. Just trace the blow by tube from the back of the carb to the engine just under the flywheel, you will have to remove the shroud and filter housing in order to get to it, you may have to remove the flywheel to remove the blow by cover, in order to get to the filter and screen.
Might remove the air filter first and see if it looks oily inside like oil is blowing up thru crankcase vent tube.

Have a good day....!
