Hello all.I'm a newbie and glad to have located a site exclusively for lawn equipment.
I bought this MTD Yardman, model 13AM660F062,38"deck,14HP about a year ago and
it has set since then. The other day I cranked it up,changed oil in it,cleaned the carb, and
it ran like a champ. The problem is when I engaged the deck handle the deck belt began
to smoke.Checked out the spindles and one would not turn.Got a rubber mallet and banged
a few time on the blade and got it to loose up.Put new blades on it after discovering the stuck
spindle blade was warped.Check the spindles and they seem to rotate OK.After engaging the deck
with the new blades, there was a constant shaking and vibration.Rechecked blade tightness and
fit.Tried the deck engagement again and same scenario.Well I took blades off and engaged the
deck and there was shaking and vibration again, but not as bad.Question: Could the spindle that
was stuck still be partially frozen up or is there maybe a problem with belt routing. When the deck
was engaged, the blades and spindles seemed to be rotating at a fairly good RPM.Any deck specialist
on board that could lend some advice. Thanks

WELCOME to LMF...

First check the Belt... You may have 'smoked' a chunk of it while it was stuck...
Second check the pulleys you may have burnt a pulley,
and check the run out in the spindles, there may be a bent spindle OR a cracked spindle housing...
Post back with what you find... :smile:KennyV

As was said, check the belt. My guess is the belt was stuck by rust to one of the pulleys. When you tried to engage it, it burnt a flat spot in the belt. Now, every time the belt goes around a pulley and it hits the flat spot, you get the vibration. Very common.
