Can you tell me if a Honda hydrostatic transmission mower might have far less issues than a Honda mower with a standard transmission in the long run?

I've owned a Honda HR214SX for 32 years with never a hint of trouble with the 2-speed standard transmission. In the reading I've done on the subject of Honda trannies, my general feeling is that the hydrostatic's give more trouble than the manual ones.

Need Tips For Leaf Removal With Riding Lawnmower

About 10-yrs ago my son got a JD LA115 and the chute kept clogging up with grass, which was very annoying. Someone on the forum suggest a hi-lift blade, and after installing them the clogging problem thankfully was solved.

Lawn Mower runs for 10 minutes and stops

I had a similar problem with a 25 year old Toro I was fixing for a friend. It turned out that gasoline was leaking thru the carburetor into the engine oil when the mower was at rest in between mowings which thinned out the oil which caused overheating when the engine was running, thus it...

    Honda HR214/215 Carburetor 0-ring

One problem is that I don't know what size the o-ring is. The size is what I'm hoping someone on this forum can tell me. I already have an o-ring kit that I bought a few years ago, but it doesn't contain o-rings small enough for what's needed. I presume that the o-ring that's needed is a...

    Honda HR214/215 Carburetor 0-ring

I've owned 6 or 7 HR214/215 mowers in the past few years, some obtained just for parts, and others for using. Since these mowers are 20-35 years old, the engines often don't run smoothly when I get them. I've cleaned out 5 or 6 of their carburetors and found a key carburetor part for getting...

Replace wheel bearings for Honda HR214,HR216,HR216 (all alluminum deck ) 8" wheel

I recently put together a Honda HR214SX with parts from 4 different HR214SX's that were other peoples' throw aways that I accumulated, using the best of the parts from these 4-donor mowers. I embarked on this project when the last mower I obtained had a perfect engine, which preempted the need...

Why an HR215K1 Masters Series ???

I just saw this thread had a question I didn't answer yet, but here it is: It was the valve cover gasket. I don't know the part # and would have to look it up, as you can also do.

Honda GCV160 Mower "kickback" when starting

hppants, Having 0 exhaust valve clearance could cause poor compression, so why don't you just adjust the valves to specs and see if that solves your starting problem.

    HR214/215 Uncommon Maintenance Upgrades

There are 4 items which I will discuss in this thread: 1) painting, 2) front deck bumper, 3) handlebar support kit, & 4) Plastic wheel reinforcement. The HR215K1 Masters is the mower which the 4 items in this thread were performed on, however, they also apply to the entire HR214/215 series...

Why an HR215K1 Masters Series ???

I have noticed that people on lawnmower forums seem to covet the HR215 Masters series mower over the previous HR215 model. I believe the Masters was the last of the non-commercial HR series, so you would expect that it had all the latest improvements. I'm usually skeptical about assumptions...

    Honda Plastic Wheel Cracks

I've got a (new to me) Honda HR215 MASTERS series self prop. mower which I'm cleaning up, and found some cracks in one of the rear plastic wheels (see pic). I've seen similar wheel cracks in other mowers in Honda's HR214/215 series, but the cracks don't seem to cause any operating problems...

    new member here

My son just bought a new house with a huge yard, and a John Deere rider mower came with it. I am the chief mechanic, maintenance man, and part time operator of this mower, so I joined this forum because I just know that it will be very helpful in the future, and I hope I can reciprocate too.
