    KT746 Locked up

I kind of made a boo boo. A friend suggested that the crank bearings should come off, before removing the heads. He said the bearings would lock up before the rings. So I took one off. (The one side that I'd removed the head from) That piston was lose. But the crank still won't turn. So trying...

Kohler Courage V Twin Knocking Sound When Cranking

I think you probably could. I've done it on the bench before on a Briggs, with a big drill. But that was before I was warned about overtightening the bolt that holds the flywheel.

    KT746 Locked up

They're 30's. When it rounded out, The next size (allan head) was about all I could get in it. But that was too loose. I knew it was. but gave it a shot. And that didn't work either. My map gas canister is empty. But I still have a soldering torch I might throw at it. I might try filing off...

    KT746 Locked up

Better luck today. I got two more of the 3 remaining valve cover bolts out. The 3rd one wollered out the torx part. So, tomorrow my only option is going to be tacking a nut on top of this one. I'm just glad the head hasn't broken off. Still can't rotate the crank though.

    Briggs Wont Start

Congrats man. Isn't it an awesome feeling to know it's just a simple fix. Even though it doesn't seem like it. Was the magnets in a different location?

TB 30 with MTD engine object in oil sump

I dropped the plastic safety seal off the top of an oil bottle down into my brothers Kohler last year. I've been waiting to hear him say something about his engine since then. Nothing yet. lol

Ah, Ok, get you a shop vac and either put the hose at the fill tube or the oil drain.

Kohler Courage V Twin Knocking Sound When Cranking

I've bought a few from Stens. And theirs seem to hold up pretty good. Better than the two I bought from Amazon.

    Briggs Wont Start

Ok, so you have fuel (Carb spray), and you got the time marks lined up. And you have compression. Then the only thing left is spark. Or no spark. Did you gap the coil correctly? If you don't have spark, remove the engine cover, unplug the coil kill wire, then give it a shot of carb cleaner...

    Briggs Wont Start

Take the choke off, spray some carb cleaner through the carb and see what happens. If it cranks, then you have a fuel problem. Maybe the carb. First, Make sure the fuel solenoid isn't staying shut. (It's plugged in, right?) If it doesn't crank, then you may have a timing problem. As in maybe...

TB 30 with MTD engine object in oil sump

Does the oil fill tube come off? Or is it just a cap? Also, when you drain the oil, put a screen under it, so if either of the pieces some out, the screen will catch it. Drain the oil in something clean, so you can pour it back into the engine to try and flush the pieces to the drain hole. You...

Kohler Courage V Twin Knocking Sound When Cranking

Not sure what kind of knocking sound it was. But may have been a loose magnet inside the starter.

    Belts changed , no speed

Did the belts seem snug after installing them? With the engine off, and the go peddle pressed did the drive belts tighten up? This may be dumb question, but is everything routed right? Many times I thought I had everything on right, but something was slightly off, that may have looked right...

    KT746 Locked up

There's no broken rods. I got one of the heads off, and it's got quite of bit of carbon build up, but the top of the cylinder looks ok. I had to get the 1" impact to get 2 of the head bolts out. The other side, that's a different story. I have a bad feeling that 3 of the valve cover bolts are...

    KT746 Locked up

KT746-3011 BD: 08/02/2015 Feeling pretty good today, so I thought I'd check out why this Kohler was locked up. It's impossible to turn from the engine fan. Put a big pair of channel locks on the crank (the rusty part, just below the crank seal) and gave it a tug in both directions, and it...

OCT 2021 Purchase at 2022 Pricing

When I sold my house, where my first shop was, I scrapped a lot of mowers. Many loads to the scrap yard. One load, had 4 riders, 3 push mower and some two cycle stuff. I got like $45 for that load. Last year, when I shut the in town shop down, I scrapped the mowers. That same weigh brought over...

OCT 2021 Purchase at 2022 Pricing

Kind of a bummer, ain't it? Seems like only a few years ago, there would be year end clearance sales. Maybe that was back in August or September. If so, I missed it too. Some dealerships have to reduce their prices at some point in the year because they're required to have new models on their...

Exhaust popping through intake briggs 10hp

I'm just thinking out loud here. Backfiring through the carb, means the fuel is ignited while the intake valve is still open.. Or has a gap big enough for exhaust to get through, Correct? So there's only two things that could make that happen. Firing at the wrong time or valve problem. A...

I'm glad you said that. My last doctor was going to get me into PT, but I had to move. So I never got to go. But I didn't understand how that was going to help anything. Because when I could do stuff, it only seem to make it worse. I suppose it's in how you do stuff, that makes the difference...

Are you sure about that? Just to double check, I went out and looked at the two riders I have, and both seats are directly over the rear tires. And the only cushion is the seat, seat spring and tires. While most of the ztr's seats are a tad bit in front of the drive tires.

Yes, that was discussed before I even moved in. My brother knows them very well, and he told them about me when he found out this place was for rent. Anything they need done, that I can do, I do it. And it reduces my rent. $100 for mowing, probably twice a month. Makes the rent only about $350...

I just moved to a new state. So I'll have to switch insurance (more than likely). When I get all that set up, I'm going to go see a doctor about it. I don't know what I did to my back, but since before Christmas of last yes, it's been giving me fits. And it's SOO easy to flare up. I used to drive a semi, coast to coast. Weeks and weeks out on the road at a time. I had air ride seats in it. Could raise it, lower it. Put as much air in the cylinder as I wanted. Also, the seat has air bags for the lower back, upper back. It was like a $1200 seat back then (that I got out of...

Comfort is a big thing for me. I have a back that's just looking for a reason to start hurting again. I agree on how most are the same. As far as cutting, that's the mowers main objective. They all do that. Even the MTD low end brands. Comfort, good quality so I don't have to start fixing stuff...

Where would you say Husqvarna stands on their biggest residential ZTR, quality wise? I'm looking for something around a 60" ZTR. And I'm not sure why, maybe it's the marketing, but every time I do a ZTR search, Husq covers almost every search page.

2022 Bad Boy Mowers have arrived!

What makes bad boy better than the others. Serious question. I'm in the market for a new ZTR. Some of my concerns 1. Readily available aftermarket parts. Or OEM parts available online through places like Amazon and Ebay. Or Stens. 2. Easy to work on. As in not having to take deck pulley's off...
