What was wrong with this mower?

@Scrubcadet10 , I'm thinking that if no one had responded, we would've already had the answer by now.

What was wrong with this mower?

Thinking about the fuel & air flow system, since the timing and everything related has been covered, Maybe something jarred the carb or broke something on the intake. Nothing I can think of along those lines seems plausible. I'm guessing the coil wasn't damaged or moved, since it doesn't...

    Surging Briggs

42 replies and no suggestion. So I stepped up another size, then another, then another. And it's running smooth now. My cheapo calipers only go 2 digits passed the decimal. But it said .03. The one size lower also read .03. So I'm guessing it was .035.

Ok, I give. What was it?

What was wrong with this mower?

You say you fixed it. Was an external repair, or did you have to get inside the engine to fix it?

What was wrong with this mower?

    Those have a compression release?

    Surging Briggs

Model # 13R2320021FG1 It's surging, unless I choke it about 2/3rds. I cleaned the carb. Which wasn't bad, that I could see. There was a little trash in the bottom of the bowl that had been sitting.. Also a little more in the shut off that's built onto this carb. The pilot jet wasn't clear...

How To Clean A Honda Carburetor

Only running on choke means the gas/air mixture is wrong. Choking it sucks more gas into the head. So I'd say check the fuel delivery system. Fuel lines, fuel filter. Also, if you haven't done so, post a new thread, with the engine model number so we'll know what you're having trouble with.

    Tanaka weed eater.

After fixing his Murray, I took a gander at the Tanaka fuel tank leak. Pretty easy fix with the soldering gun. I call the customer and asked him if he was sure he wanted the Murray instead of the tanaka, and he was positive. Said he probably won't even use the Murray. Said he had a battery...

    Bar and chain selection

The Stens chain and bar you listed was spot on. My brother loves that chain. It's very aggressive. BTW, I took the saw up to the stihl shop and the guy and it appears the tip was an 050, but the bar was an 058. He didn't know the answer as to why the tip and the bar was different. Or how it...

    Tanaka weed eater.

You ain't kidding, man. As soon as it fired up, I thought maybe the H side was too high. But after turning it down, then too high, I ended up at almost the same exact spot. I have some high & thick grass (since it's been raining), and that thing just barely slacked off. My brother just had...

    Tanaka weed eater.

TCG22EAS(SLP) One of my customers gave me one of these the other day. Saying it was always leaking, so he'd bought a new one. So, I found the leak and fixed it. Check the spark and compression, both were good. Changed the fuel lines, primer bulb and what was left of the air filter. It fired...

    Murray MS9900 Leaf Blower

I've done a rebuild on one like that once. Replaced the rings. Thanks to @bertsmobile1 , who turned me onto Aliaba (one what ever the name of that company was) It was pretty easy. It took them forever to send the rings to me here in the USA. But it worked until I sold it. That same customer...

    Murray MS9900 Leaf Blower

Replacing everything without knowing what's wrong can get expensive. Does it have spark? If it's flooding out you can pull plug and dry out the plug, slowing pull the starter rope a few times. Reinsert the plug and try it again. Or open the choke, with full throttle, pull on the pull rope...

    Stroke of luck

Normally, when I get one of these newer Craftsman, Murray or Troybilt weed eaters, that's only a few years old, they've got probably that usually cost too much to fix. Scored cylinders, low compression or a combination of things. But, I took in some work from one of my regular customers (5...

    Dolmar 109

It wouldn't have been as bad if I could set the spring with the inside cover on. I had to use the open end of a wrench, and a screw driver through the hole on the other end of the wrench to turn it into place. The hole in that cover was too small to rotate the wrench. I still may end up...

    Dolmar 109

Thanks man. That was very helpful. But what a pain in the rear is was to reset that thing. Those two holes on the inside cover would fit fine with the spring released. But you have to set that before you put that cover on. There's so much tension on those two studs, that they actually move...

    Dolmar 109

Customer say his chain brake hasn't worked since he got it back from the last shop. I've never worked on a Dolmar, but the way the piece (circled in red) is bumping up against the cover, I'd say it's on backwards. At least I thought it was backways til I looked at this new one. Ah wait...

    6000 ZT Lift actuator

Upon further inspection, i'm thinking all it's going to need is a little emery cloth and a new spring for the brushes. One side had quite a bit of corrosion around that area and ate that spring into a bunch of pieces. The other side ain't bad. The top spring, that little piece, is all that's...

    Backfires when trying to start

Backfiring is fuel being burned when the exhaust valve is open. Does it black smoke at all when you're using it? If so, it could be the carb is too rich.

Bad Boy ZTR 60" Model # 6000 ZT S# BBZ6027K002102249 I'm getting a little over 12v to the electric motor on the actuator, but it's not making a sound. No clicking, Nothing. So, I'm guessing the actuator motor is bad. Looks like he's whacked on this thing plenty of times. He says that how...

Yeah, it's on right. Has always been on right. My brother has been cutting wood for a long time. Back in the day, my dad owned a tree service business down in Dallas. He worked with my dad a lot. Prior to that, dad used to cut and haul pulp wood. He and my other brother had to work with him...

@LMPPLUS, this post (the OP you quoted) was what I was posting prior to actually seeing it the saw. Once he got here, we worked out some details on a few things. Like the bar. I thought he'd bought a new bar & chain. When in fact it was only the chain he bought. It was fairly new, but was...

I don't want to sound like I'm arguing with anyone, just trying to figure this bar & chain thing out. Every legit place I've looked at, says the same thing. Match the DL, gauge & pitch. That's what I did. Since this bar has been working great, up until it finally wore out (it's the original...

And I've got them written down. Had them written down the moment I seen the post. Just waiting until the one I ordered comes in to see how it's wrong? The numbers on the bar & chain I ordered matched the numbers on the bar. Up til this thread, I was just doing what I've seen online, and what...

    Bar and chain selection

The bar is worn out. The chain has way too much wiggle. It's stamped on the bar 050. And a quarter will slide into it a tiny bit. Plus there's a tiny notch on most of the chain tips (one side only).

My brother bought it new. And has done nothing but brag about it's performance. I remember seeing the saw a couple of years ago when you could still make out the Jonesered on the bar. So I have no doubt it's all original.

You're a genius. Thanks So checking what's on the original bar, it says 050. Not 058. You're chain/bar matching page states that it's 058 gauge.

OK, I found my catalog, and I'm not seeing much more info than what's on their webpage. I do see the D009 number. That's just an Oregon part number. I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with a Stens rep. He and I are on about the same knowledge level when I comes to bars and chains...

Yes sir, you got my head spinning. Just a few days ago, I thought it was just a matter of matching the gauge, pitch and DL. Now there's 10+ other things to consider. My brother cuts about 4 chords per year. So he's not the typical homeowner type user. But I'm 100% sure he doesn't care to...

I don't have an account with Rotary. But I can probably find it on the inner screen. What's messed up, is everything I've looked at says all I need is the DL, pitch & gauge. I get all that, order a bar and chain that fits that description, and then @StarTech comes up with some numbers that...

Yes sir. Been there, done that. The trucking company I started with was sold to an equity company. We were still hauling the loads, everyone was still doing their jobs. But one day, after about a year, some employee's showed up at the office with chains on the gates and the doors. Drivers...

After discussing this a little further, he says it spits out big shavings, but that it cuts crooked. So I advised him that they're not the same thing. I'm not so sure about the "customer will never be happy" comment. I've had a lot of satisfied customers. Even when things didn't work out...

Heavily worn? That's possible. It's looking pretty thin. But It doesn't look like it's in desperate need. I see. I just did a quick search and found what I posted. Looks like it was from the Husqvarna website. It's my brother. And he get emotional when someone contradicts what he says...

I'm getting the picture that it's doesn't matter if it's an 058 or an 050 gauge, as long as the bar and chain match. Is this going to have an effect on the sprocket?
