We had some living in an outdoor drain and an outdoor street drain that went ballistic when the county decided they were better than spraying. Whatever...

    Valve guide moved

be aware that the valve guide is not concentric. Each one is unique, and when the valve seats are ground, that guide angle is used as a pilot. Don't turn the guide if you do the above repair, and do not use something hard like steel to drive it back into position for fear of mushrooming it.

    Deck belt adjustment problem

1st post. Welcome. Try model, serial number etc., and why you feel a need to adjust the belts. For example - if the old ones wore out, and you put new ones on, maybe they are the wrong length. Or maybe the pulley brakes are worn and changing the geometry to where belts no longer fit properly.

    Honda HRN 216 Mower

no but I have a 20 year old Toro with a Briggs that has done that since new. Is your Honda one that stores on end? If it is enough that it concerns you, I would follow Slomo's advise. You know it leaks oil. That should not be happening. Might have been someone's first day on the job, or they...

LT1000 - Misfires and stalls out

I would verify that the choke is working properly. Would add some fuel line drier like Heet or another brand to the fuel and drain a little fuel out of the carb, and try it again. Certainly a new genuine and not counterfeit spark plug may help. If that fails, I would definitely adjust the valves...

    Changed my mind

sorry to hear, thank you for your honesty. Covid and the inflation that followed was a double whammy. People lack the money in general to pay for what it really takes to make a quality product, and all the hard working baby boomers retired out. It has been discussed many times. Stats today came...

    Lube head bolts?

to add to the discussion - if one goes to an engineering book on torque values, it is not just the fastener but what it fastens too. I LMAO when someone lectures some of us in some car forum about how the bolts must always be dry, then they screw it into an oily hole in the block. Torque...

well, one of two things will happen. If JD is correct, the surging will stop. If JD is wrong, it will be back. Water can collect in the very bottom of the carb bowl, in dips in a fuel line, low spots in the tank where you can only get it by adding something like Heet (Isopropyl alcohol) or...

    Lube head bolts?

most "dry" bolts are not dry. They have oils on them from manufacturing. Dry means not dipped in a bucket of oil. As ILENGINE posted, many manufacturers tell you what they want done but very few people read the foot notes, they just post the old wives tales that the Internet is full of. Even...

    Valve guide moved

if the head has not been off, do a visual inspection with a bore scope on the piston. You may find that the pushrod was bent when the piston and the valve met. That can be because the piston cracked and broke into a top and bottom, or a valve hung open. The leak can be either the hole in the...

FJ180 scored crankshaft and top bearing

Cool - from $30 good used on ebay to $86 from KW. I saw the price on a crank this morning about $50 so that is a bargain on a 20 year old engine. Be sure to measure the crank journals and rod big end (at least for wear) before ordering a crank to be sure it is STD and that the rod is not too worn.
