Check the ground connection to the battery.

Try the simplest first. If does seem to reason that changing the belts would cause a major overhaul. Does the starter turn the motor over? Does the motor turn over and not start. Check for spark.

Try some Seafoam gas additive before doing anything that may alter your carb

Check your battery's ground cable. Clean where it is attached to the frame.
