ok sounds good. i'll recheck with 1/4" past TDC and then if same result then i'll give the valve a very very light grind on the stem. thanks.

i was planning to grind down the valve end like 1mm and then recheck if it creates the proper valve clearance. basically i have a clearance tool like in the attached image and took the thinnest one and i could insert it thru where the valve closes against the head (right next to the piston)...

i removed the muffler and opened the valve area and noticed that at top dead center the intake valve has no clearance and due to that the valve is not shut completely. the exhaust valve is fine. i assume this is the issue why there is oil burn and no compression, hence the machine is not...

would it help if i cleaned all the carbon (especially around the valve seats) and installed a new head gasket? or is it better to just get rid of the machine?

yes actually i was thinking about using thicker oil. what do you recommend to use? 10w-30 synthetic? or something thicker?

update - i ran the tractor for 1 hour without issues on mostly flat ground. but unfortunately the issue re-occured (oil burning), but noticed it occurs near the same area where it occurred before on my lawn. this area is on a slight decline where the engine is pointed downwards. could it be...

@bertsmobile1 - i'll go ahead and change both the O ring and carb gasket. i assume you are referring to the blue and red arrows?

@bertsmobile1 - just to confirm, you are suggesting the air filter housing is letting some dirt get thru which is causing this? just wondering what the best resolution is for this. since i opened up the area i cleaned the head area and will install a new gasket
