    Need help!

That what we call in this area as a “buck two eighty mower” which probably sold for around $129.99 new. Really no parts that can be repaired On the deck and handle. The engine is Tecumseh, my guessing an LEV195. On the side of the shroud opposite the carb, under the plastic cover, there...

IS2000 Will not Start, Have tried everything, HELP!!

If the carb has a fuel stop solenoid on the carb, that could be the problem. When you turn the key to the run position you should feel it pop and or hear it click. If it does neither would remove it and test to see if the plunger is moving properly. If it doesn’t move when you apply 12VDC to...

    Wheel weights

Where have you tried looking for them? I’ll bet most repair shops may have a used set laying around. A couple of phone calls would probably be in order. If they say they have some, but need to match your wheel, remove a rear wheel and take a ride.

    Engine who makes my engine

Please don’t trust Amazon when trying to do what you want to accomplish. I’m sure that many other techs on this site will agree. To often what Amazon says is not what they deliver. It’s your money you can do as you please, but if you still want to attempt, only get your parts from the engine...

    Snow and cold.

Update, if you don’t like the weather in Wisconsin wait a day and it will change. Last week I posted that we wouldn’t get above freezing until after the new year. Boy was I wrong. This morning they are now saying we will be over 40 F on Thursday with rain. There go the snow mobile trails...

I remember Christmas day 1980 we had -26 F plus wind. It’s burned into my memory because we had to travel to my parents 50 miles away with our 3 month old son. Heater worked overtime and everything turned out fine. Last summer we had 95 F with humidity of 70+, that ain’t no dry heat, for...

    BRIGGS PARTS HELP!!!!

To me it looks like a Briggs opposed twin engine. If that is the case, there are three possible starters used on that engine. Also means the there might be a ID plate riveted to the red blower housing. Do you have this cover and can you post a picture of it, plus the side of the block where...

    Oil coming from intake

WOW, a six month old thread and you make a comment like that? Your expertise indicates you have more time than knowledge, as the blow by tube is connected to the carb, which would mean that if oil was being blown out the tube it would smoke continuously.

Paing for a small engine repair course

You may not have meant it that way, but too many out there take it that way. I’ve heard it more often than I could count, a few in joking, but most assume that tech instructors are ones who couldn’t handle it out in the field and got out for an easier job for more pay. It’s probably the one...

Grumpy, as a teacher for 34+ years I take exception to your comment. Every occupation has there 5-10%, but to lump everyone into the same boat is a disservice to the good ones out there. Maybe all the bad ones live near you.

Kohler engine hard to turn over.

Before you start changing timing, which I doubt is your problem, I would be removing the valve cover and check the valve clearance. You can google (Kohler engine repair manual) and find a service manual which will tell you how to adjust the valve clearance.

    engine problem

Your coil has either a hot open or hot short. What do I mean? The coil heats up during normal operation, but after they age the windings may either short to ground or breakdown. After it cools down they will return to their normal position and you can start the unit again and it will run...

24hp Kohler Hard to Start When Cold

If you would have loosenEd the throttle cable clamp and push the cable forward until the choke closed it would not have affected the engine speed. Better to do it this way than to start bending linkages.

  33. R

    Vapor lock

Common cause of vapor lock is fuel line routed too close to the hot parts of the engine, normally around the cylinder head. You don’t give us much help in diagnosing your problem, like engine numbers or pictures of the fuel line. If you provide more info we may be able to solve your problem...

24hp Kohler Hard to Start When Cold

The very first thing I would check is to make sure the choke plate is fully closed when you you put the throttle control in the choke position. Troy Bilt Self Propelled Lawn Mower Issue

The used gear on the left is definitely worn. Check the axle for play, it should not move up/down or side to side. If it does, it may be the bearing Star posted and you have pictured.

Troy Bilt Self Propelled Lawn Mower Issue

Two things will cause this problem. First would be a worn drive belt. If it is three plus years old, time to replace. Second would be a a worn drive gear on the right drive wheel. Again it may be time to replace.

Figuring out year of manufacture is driving me nuts

If you look at your Briggs engine number, you will find a MODEL, TYPE, AND CODE numbers. All listed together, which is how they identify their engines You posted 08P502 which is the MODEL, 0167-F1 which is the type, but no code. This code number will tell use the day, month, and year of...

    Valve Clearance

On L- head engines valve clearance will normally become less. On OHV engines the valve clearance will normally become more, due to rocker arm locks coming loose allowing the change, not wear. Boot, I will gladly answer questions like this everyday of the week. It shows me that this person is...

    Valve Clearance

Correction needed, normal wear will cause the clearance to become less, not more. This is most commonly due to valve stem stretch.

New Member! Walk me through your buying steps of a new mower.

I agree with Bert on just about everything he posted but one. That is brand loyalty. I always recommend staying with the major brands, where you have a dealership you are comfortable dealing with. In today’s market that doesn’t give you many choices. In today’s tractor market I see it as a...
