    newbi needs help, please!

I would check the carb, sounds like a lean running condition, which clears when closing choke. This manual may be of some help. https://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Kohler-Service-and-Repair-Manuals/Kohler-Service-Repair-Manual-Command-CV17-CV18-CV20-CV22-CV25-CV22-CV23-CV26.pdf

Unidentified metal piece fell out of oils drain

To me it looks like part of the governor yoke, which has been flying around inside the crankcase for awhile. I would test to see if the governor is operating properly.

    OnanEngine

This is what I would recommend, others may disagree. I’m assuming it has electric start. 1. Check the oil, level and condition. If it is not black, proceed. If black, change using straight 30W. 2. Remove plugs and ground spark plug wires. 3. Remove and plug fuel line before the pump. If...

Need help identifying an OEM tecumseh lawnmower carb that came off a snowblower.

Good luck in your search. Finding the specific carb which uses a specific main jet is not easy. Just as your carb came from a mower, I’m willing to bet that the jet came from a blower. Probably a “fix it job” done by a “DIY GUY” from his “ I’ve got something that will work” scrap box. If you...

Need help identifying an OEM tecumseh lawnmower carb that came off a snowblower.

Now I’m totally confused as to what you are looking for. I identified the carb in your pictures. Are you trying to find a lawnmower carb which uses specific snowblower carb bowl nut?

Need help identifying an OEM tecumseh lawnmower carb that came off a snowblower.

Looks to me like a Tecumseh #640278, but I’m running into a memory problem. Looking at your pic I don’t think that that carb came on a snowblower engine, as it is most commonly used on mower engines. Are you sure that it is the original carb? Do you have any numbers off the engine ID tag?

    Snow in TN.

Update, looks like next Tuesday we’ll get above freezing, 32 degrees, for the first time this year. Problem is we’ve had less than 3” of snow during this period. Need to go almost to the UP to find snowmobile trails open. Looking and hoping for a couple of good February storms here in God’s...

    Cylinder Honing

I taught my students to use very light lubricant to eliminate as much stone clogging as possible. The heavier the lub the more it will grab any particles, plus I over use my lube. This does get messy, as I do get it everywhere, but to me it’s worth a good job. Most people do not agree with me...

    Cylinder Honing

If you have a local machine shop or old fashion auto shop, you might want to see if they have a set of telescoping gages and a vernier you can borrow. Will make your job a lot easier. I like your choice of hones and would use mineral spirits as a lubricant. Remember you must measure at top...

    Cylinder Honing

Grit size will depend on condition of the cylinder and how much material you want to remove. Are you resizing the cylinder or just have a cylinder within specs and just trying to put a good crosshatch in it? This will dictate type of hone (rigid or flex) and grit size. Hone a closed 2-cycle...

Lifetime Deck warranty is not hhhhonored

First off, please don’t start two threads about the same problem. This only gets confusing and doesn’t help you with your problem. Second, who are you dealing with and where did you purchase it? Have you talked to a Big Box center, Husqvarna dealer, or Husqvarna directly? Looking at your...

    Predator coil on Briggs?

Once again I agree with Bert. Couple of things to add. Curvature of the coil legs is very important, as this will determine strength of the flux lines, duration of buildup and timing. Second, not all coils use the same type of triggering systems, which also control timing. To anyone who...

E180, flywheel spins but motor won't start

At that temp I would make sure the fuel shutoff solenoid on the bottom of the carb is opening. An amount of water in to fuel would freeze the plunger, not allowing it to open.

    Toro Timecutter SS4235 no spark

There are a few different methods of electrical troubleshooting floating around this forum to help you. This is the one I use. What am I doing wrong?!?!

This may sound stupid, but did you use a new sump gasket? Should be part number 697110 and have a thickness of .015”. If you are using the old gasket, it may be compressed too thin causing the problem.
  21. R

    Toro Timecutter SS4235 no spark

When you turn the key to “Start” do you hear the solenoid click? If not the solenoid may be good, as you are not getting current to the solenoid if no click. You will now need to check all connections and grounds, then go through the safety switches.

    Predator coil on Briggs?

As Scrub said, if the engine timing is off causing a lean operating condition, it will definitely overheat and seize up. Ask anyone who has had an engine on their racing tractor or go-cart explode when they had the timing to far off under high RPMs. They start the engine with either, keep...

    What am I doing wrong?!?!

Most likely the numbers on the crank are casting numbers, so unless you have the casting codes they mean nothing. Are both the slots on the crank, for the timing gear the same? Do the timing gear align at the same point? Do you have a vernier caliper to measure the thrust surfaces to see if...

    Yamaha EF600 Generator issues

More questions than answers. Do you have a tachometer and VOM? Is this generator just 220-240 or do you have 120VAC outlets? Is this a constant throttle unit or one that idles down when no load is applied? Working on generators requires a knowledge of both how the engine works and how...

Trying to decide between 2 21" mowers.

Disclaimer: I’ve been selling and servicing Toro’s for 40+ years, so I’m a little biased. I would highly recommend a Toro model 21563 over model 21389, mainly because I like the handle setup better. As a service tech I also feel that the Toro units are easier to service than the Honda. I...

I have a 6.5hp briggs on a poulan pro mower. The coil will spark a few times and quit, spark and quit.

According to the numbers you posted they both use the same flywheel. Seeing you have two different flywheels, have you checked to see if everything is exactly the same? Magnet location in relation to key slot.slot, Flywheel diameter, Magnet size, etc. As stated I think you’ve found your problem

Hydraulics Pump Leaking or New mower

First thing you need to do is diagnose where the leak is. I’ve seen units where the happy home owner has been ready to throw in the towel before finding that the problem was something as simple as a loose coupler or bad hose. My suggestion is to clean everything to look like new. Pressure...

    Carb for a 5hp Briggs?

Personally I don’t think you will be able to find a better carb. Those carbs are about as simple as they come and with proper maintainance work well. Most common problem is where the carb mounts to the tank. Tanks like to warp, making it difficult to get a good seal for the carb to work...

Totally agree with Bert on this one. I‘ve also have a boxes of used coils and used carbs I’ve removed from junkers and install on my “poverty “ cases. I have a 6.5hp briggs on a poulan pro mower. The coil will spark a few times and quit, spark and quit.

I’d set the armature air gap to .008 and see if there is any change. Very seldom do magnets go bad. Finally, checking resistance on today’s coils is meaningless, as they contain Hall effect triggers which you need high tech equipment to check.
