I can only start the engine if I take the black leads of the coils. Even then the blades won’t engage. I am assuming I have an earth somewhere. After a repair (large double pulley and new belt and blades, plus full service. I did it cut the grass for 5 minutes and then it slowly died. Can anyone help me please.

The first ( not sparking ) is a safety switch problem
The second is a seat switch or reverse switch problem.
Do as Mark advised because the JD Tech manual is the best on the market , particularly when running down an electrical problem.
