I have a White garden tractor that I have a problem with. The PTO will engage after I first start the engine and will let me mow all I want. But if I shut the mower down for a short period and the engine is still warm the PTO will not engage. The same thing happens if I am mowing and go in reverse the blades will stop spinning as they are supposed to but when I hit the PTO after going forward again they will not engage. In other words after the engine is warm and has been used to cut grass if it is shut down and restarted before the engine gets time to cool down the PTO will not engage. Thanks for any suggestions

Failing PTO clutch. I have seen this very case on a CC ZTR last year and on a JD F525 several years ago.

Check your clutch to see if is adjustable. Too wide a gap can cause that problem. Gap Is usually .015 to .020
