What's the name and way to eradicate the lighter color broader grass?

Every February-March these blades of faster-growing, broader, lighter green grass (?weeds) appear in areas of the bluegrass lawn. In prior years, have pulled them out repeatedly. Not easy or fun. Is there a selective chemical killer for whatever this is?

Note the unusual structure of the plucked grass.

That looks like annual rye. It is a grass. It germinates from seed each year. How to kill.

Thanks so much. RoundUp kills all grass, correct? Which one is the best to use and will it actually selectively kill this ryegrass and not the bluegrass?

The problem is what you just said. It is grass and most everything is designed to kill broadleaf stuff. You are going to have bare spots till the new grass gets planted and grows in. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page I sent you it has the killers listed with links to buy or you can go to your local store and purchase them.

Hmmmm. Think I'll just dig up the areas, add new soil, and put down seed.
