In the past few days, my Honda HRX has made an odd noise when I start the engine. Instead of just pulling the cord and it being a steady hum, I will pull it, and it will go v-roooooom-hum. It sounds like it revs up for a second and then goes back to normal. I am not worried about it, because it doesn't affect anything, but I was just wondering what it could be. To clarify, since my engine-noise imitations might not be the best:laughing:, it sounds like the mower revs up and has more power for a second, and then goes back to it's normal hum.

could it have gotten shaken a little and some excess gas worked its way into the combustion chamber?

Probably just the automatic choke. Since I believe your mower has a manual speed control w/o a speed governor, I can't think of anything else that would affect engine speed on startup.
