Toro LX500 won't move

I was cutting the grass and my mower stopped moving. I looked for a busted spring or belt didn't see anything broken.
The drive belt looked really loose so I ordered a new one. I installed it (what a Pain) after new belt was installed it still looks loose. I tried the tractor and still doesn't move forward or reverse. I jacked up the rear and both tires move freely.
What do I need to check next? Any help really appreciated.

I would have replaced both belts items 37 & 38 & idler pulleys qty. 2 item 40. bearings in pulleys do wear out.

scotch front wheels & jack up rear & install jack stands, sit in seat crank it up trying forward & reverse, let us know what gives, thanks.

I lifted the rear wheels of mower sat on seat started the mower put into forward and reverse gear no movement of rear tires. I did see and smell smoke coming from front under the engine (burning rubber smell).

Rear wheels do spin freely in neutral.

Any more suggestions?

with the burning rubber smell, the drive belt might be scorched on the engine pulley, in other words the pulley spun but the belt didn't.:2cents:
