Thinking about buying: Craftsman FS 5500

5500
A guy near me is selling a Craftsman FS 5500 with a Briggs 24hp intek engine. 48” deck. 233 hours. It appears to be in excellent shape. He says he buys them and fixes them up perfect and sells. He’s listed this one for $650. Can anyone tell me more about this mower? I have a little over and acre to cut, wide open minimal obstructions. Was looking at JD’s and Cub Cadets bit if I can find quality used mower for cheaper that would be great.

With good maintenance how much more life can I expect out of this mower?
Will it give a good cut on a flat acre?
And lastly, he’s asking $650, if you were to make an offer what would be reasonable without making too low/insulting offer?

Attached are some pictures.

That is a Husqvarna mower. It is a GT model. Garden Tractor is built stronger and will last you a long time. Most people that fix up mowers just clean the fuel system and give them a bath. I would buy it if I wanted a tractor style mower.

Thanks fellas. I think I’m going to go for it. Guy even offered to deliver it so I won’t bother haggling with him if he does.

Good info thank you. All stickers & numbers still present & legible so I took pictures and filed them away. Guy also gave me the original owners manual too. All my grass is new and still slowly growing. With all the rain we’ve had recently it’s been catching pretty well. I’m going to wait until it thickens up a bit before I take the mower for its maiden voyage but I did take my daughter for a spin around the culdesac and she loved every minute of it. The mower & my daughter lol. So far I am very happy with it. I do plan on replacing the blades and air filter as both of them look likely could use replacing.
