Swapping Toro decks

Hi all~New to the Forum and hoping someone can help...I own a mid to late 80's Toro 21" GTS self ropelled walk behind rear bagger mower with the Kawasaki motor. Recently came across another junked one(newer model 20695-briggs motor) that I pulled a cable I needed off of. The Briggs one has a much cleaner deck, new wheels, all around better shape~want to swap out the decks. Has anyone tried it before and if so, what problems or issues should I expect(already assume I'll need to drill new motor mount holes for the kawasaki motor)?

Well, I tore into both mowers last nite and happy to report that the switch went without a problem. Everything lined up, was able to clean up and replace some other parts, and got it all back together in about 4hrs...hopefully get to test it out tonight!

The good thing about Toro, is the decks haven't changed much at all in 30 years. Some models have not changed at all, so we can appreciate the ease of doing something such as an engine swap.

Here it is after-unfortunately, can't get it started now...pulled off the bowl on the carb and it was pretty filthy/looks like I'll have to clean out the rest of the carb. Is there anyone out there that knows what the model # is to the mower on the left? Originally, I thought the motor on it was a Suzuki but was told by the guy who gave me the parts mower that it was a Kawasaki...serial # on the motor is VMF5217833 if that gives any indication...Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated:smile:

Here are a couple links to cleaning & rebuilding of Kawasaki carbs...
Kawasaki FC540V-CS00 Mikuni Carb 15003-2131
Mikuni Carb 15003-2131

Should put you back into mowing... :smile:KennyV

Thanks Kennyv for the links~was a great help! Pulled it all apart and got it cleaned up, runs good now(although the float needs replaced/got it ordered).

Its actually a suzuki 4 cycle. I have two model 20622. Make sure you use the original flywheel (under the mower. The blade brake belt rides on it.) The tecumseh uses a round one and the suzuki uses a more square one.
