Is there a universal oil filter for Briggs, Kohler and Kawasaki? My dealer always gives me an Oregon filter (same number) for the Kohler and Kawasaki. One Kohler is a 20 hp one is a 27 hp and the Kawasaki is a 28hp. I have been using them so far with no problems(that I am aware of) but I started thinking their original part numbers are different.
Any thoughts?

Go onto Baldwin, Donaldson, Wix or Oregon websites and look up the filters for each. Donaldson is particularly good in that they spell out the filtering efficiency, bypass pressure, etc.
Just because a filter fits the flange doesn't mean it's the right one.
