MTD-Yard Machines pull starter cable and spring... can it be fixed?

A few weeks ago I went to start my lawn mower for the first time this year and at the same time, both the throttle cable and starter cable snapped! Well I replaced both, but the starter cable wouldn't retract... very frustrating.

Well, I was trying to fix it to get it to retract today, but couldn't get it, and the last time I put it all back together and then took it apart again to take pictures and post a question here, the spring popped off, so now it's even worse.

I've attached some pics here. Do you guys think it can be fixed or am I out of luck and this mower has reached the end of its life?

Thanks in advance,
Casey

You picked one of the toughest ones to fix on your own. My recommendation is have your local repair shop replace the spring. In our shop it would cost you $15 plus cost of the spring.

I believe that the starter spring and pulley comes as a complete assy, with the spring already installed in the pulley.
