Have a troy built rider that was working fine and had no trouble mowing the small hills in my yard. One day the spring broke that tightens the belt when you push the pedal, so the motor will engage the transmission.
I replaced the spring but now it can no longer go up the hills. I took it to the shop and the guy there is stumped. He has tried swapping out the pulleys thinking they were worn and making the belt slip.

I think something else happened that caused the spring to break. It will still mow on the flat areas but cannot go up a hill. I can push in and let out the brake and that will let me slowly move up a hill. not sure how or why that works. It will sometimes go up the hill when it is cooled down but not always.

Any ideas? is it the transmission?

Is there alot of debris under the frame? Debris and dirt under the left footrest along the frame rail can keep the clutch from fully engaging.
