Model 10552 Starter Assembly

I own a Lawn Boy Model 10552; Serial 23000-6713. Today the recoil starter mechanism broke. Rivets wore through, device was mis-aligned, broke the "dogs", (the two levers that pop out to engage the starter cup.) Part number is 99-6713. Numerous sites list this part as discontinued. Would anyone out there have a used one for sale, or know of a source for new or used part. Do any other recoil starters interchange. Thanks for the help!

Your best bet is to start going to all the repair shops in your area and try to find one in their scrap pile. Plenty of them out there, you’re going to have to do a little leg work.

Rivets...Thanks for the suggestion. As a former teacher, (retired '04) I understand your frustration with the people who bring up the "only know book knowledge" thing. I did a lot of car repair and diagnostics, welding, mounting of hitches, etc. for them because they were blank when it came to those things. They had no problem accepting my "book knowledge" in those situations.
