while mowing today with my cub cadet 1045, I heard a snap and then I lost the drive. I've since learnt about the transmission bypass rod. I have tried several things it feels really loose when its at it's home (when the drive is suppose to be engaged). I've looked at parts manual and owners manual to help but neither have helped with troubleshooting this issue. Any advice?

WELCOME to these Forums....
I trust you have checked the drive belt and input Pulley plus key... the transmission has a keyed input shaft, the pulley must be keyed to that shaft.
If the input is good, pulley actually turns the shaft.
Then check the output.
The axles are keyed to the hubs at each of the rear wheels, if the key on Either wheel is sheared OR missing it will Not drive the wheels... So check Both Wheels by jacking up the rear wheels and see if the wheels will turn the axles, when you turn them by hand. :smile:KennyV
