Hello all, I'm new and this is my inaugural post. I own a 2006 MTD Yard Machine 638. I cannot get the cutting deck level. Tires are properly inflated and I've done everything by the book in trying to get it level. Front to back is fine, I can't get the left side low enough to be level with the discharge side. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Are you measuring the deck height or the blade height?

I measured the height of the blades.

Now we need the model number of the mower off the sticker that is normally under the seat.

717-04074 Deck adjustment gear. Is the most likely issue. Block the deck off the ground and remove the bolt that holds it on the deck and check for missing or warn teeth. Also look for anything attached to the bracket for being bent or broken.

I've done this but appreciate the suggestions.

I have seen people put the hooks in the wrong way,such as JD's and Scott's mowers. That makes a big difference ~!~!
