Hello, I just picked up a JD L166 w/ 48" deck. The mower deck won't raise when I pull the bar. I can feel spring tension but nothing happens. It's in the highest cutting setting there is. Also, the knob where you set the depth of cut doesn't turn . I tried getting down in there to see if I could spot anything disconnected but couldn't see much. Any idea what's going on or where I should start?
Go to the JD web site and download the owners manual for your engine.
On some models the height adjuster screw can only do 1 turn, on others it turns round & round and on others it continues to screw in till you only get 1/10" lift ( or drop if you like ).
The deck height adjuster is a simple mechanism, but hard to explain
JD have their parts lists on line.
If you are intending to keep the mower consider buying the JD Technical Manual they are the best written, clearest & easiest to understand manuals ever written, plain english & step by step instructions.
I actually got it working....took the deck off and pulled the lever and it was working. Turned the dial down to where I wanted it, put the deck back on and it worked. Not even sure what I Did! haha
