For Safety remove key from ignition & remove negative cable from battery & tuck it away. Park brake on and transmission in neutral, remove deck for access & start at front, unplug PTO clutch carefully & remove belt from engine pulley, DO NOT remove pulley, study it for a minute or two & see which bolts to belt guard need to be removed before belt will come off. You may also have to remove idler pulleys located below seat. Inspect idler pulley bearings as well as pulleys for replacement at this time. Do a thorough inspection of underside of tractor & lube grease fittings & all moving parts at this time. Now would be a good time to clean & inspect all deck parts, topside & underside, blades, belts, pulley, sheaves & hardware for being tight & secure as well as for replacement, lube fittings & moving parts, not on belts. Installation of new belt is reversal of above.

John Deere Model LA130 Lawn Tractor Parts See page 3 for drive belt idler pulleys together. Always use JD OEM parts.

As far as steering gear, remove self locking nut at bottom, purchase new nut & bushing also, grease sector & pinion gears last thing.
Error click anyway for steering parts diagram & zoom in, replace both parts 20 & 21 if they are buggered up.
