we need some better information.
Does it just stop dead when you let the brake off or start to move then slow down & stop.
The first is an electrical problem with the mower the later is an engine problem.
Explain you symptoms like you a talking to a blind person cause on the web that is exactly what we all are.

I have run across that with a couple older John Deeres with the water cooled engines. It seems that once they put on a 3-blade deck and a grass catcher with blower assist, there isn't enough horsepower to go around....
... Not a solution, just an observation...
