First Post - thanks for having me - I have a 1/2 acre FLAT lot and I move a 1000 lb Jetski on a trailer (with wide tires) about 150 ft (out and back) once or twice every month or so during the season (May-Oct). My wife and I were pulling/pushing it around for a year or two then I picked up and rebuilt a '89 Monkey Ward Transmatic (variable pulley drive) and it is happy to pull the ski around the house and mow, but some parts are getting difficult to find so I was thinking a JD X380 would be a good choice due to the K58 hydro. Stopped by a JD dealer and they were more comfortable with a X500 series due to the K72 hydro (selling up? or should I be worried the 380 won't be enough). I will also be adding a FEL as I will need move sand to the bulkhead (about 200ft) after severe storms - not the norm and at the moment the transmatic has no issues with the task pulling a trailer load - I am just getting older and shoveling a yard or two of sand (many trailer loads) at a time is getting less enjoyable fortunately it doesn't happen often. I realize the towing capacity of both tractors is 600 lbs but what I have read is that the weight relates more to stopping power than pulling ability and I have no hills to deal with while towing or mowing.
What I was told on tractorbynet was to get a SCUT but that is WAY overkill for my lot and needs and garage space.("No one ever complained about having too big of a tractor"....but I would add if money is no object that is true).
Observations, suggestions welcome.
Thanks Chuck
